Interleukin Genetics CEO Presents at Opening Session of EuroPerio 5 Meeting

Waltham, MA, July 5, 2006 - Interleukin Genetics (AMEX: ILI) today announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Ken Kornman, DDS, PhD, presented during the Opening Session, "50 Years of Periodontology: From the Past to the Future" at the fifth triennial meeting of the European Federation of Periodontology in Madrid, Spain.

In his keynote address to over 4,000 participants, Dr. Kornman spoke about the technologies that will change the future of the practice of periodontics including the research by Interleukin Genetics’ involving its pioneering work in IL-1.

“We believe that the future of medicine and dentistry is preventive care and wellness instead of treatment of active disease processes. As individuals look forward to longer lifespans, they want to be well and active and will expect predictive and preventive medicine. For these reasons, there will be more emphasis on risk factors, such as genetics, in the prediction of who is likely to develop more aggressive periodontal disease and who will respond better to certain treatments,” commented Ken Kornman “We are leading in this effort at Interleukin through our research into the genetics of inflammation with our work in IL-1, where we have already developed DNA risk assessment tests for cardiovascular disease and for periodontitis.”

About Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is a bacterially induced inflammatory disease that destroys the bone and soft tissues that support the teeth and ultimately leads to tooth loss. Individuals with periodontal disease have been shown to also be at increased risk for certain diseases involving inflammation, including pre-term child birth and cardiovascular disease.
