Interleukin Genetics - Empowering health

Privacy

The genetic testing laboratory at Interleukin Genetics exists for one purpose - to help highly motivated individuals obtain new information about their health.

Because genetic information is the most personal of all health information, the company is absolutely committed to protecting the privacy of test results.  We have a privacy pledge that we will honor for every person who sends a sample to us for testing.

We pledge that to protect your privacy we will report test results to you only by mailing them to an address that you designate or by providing you with access to a secure website.

We pledge not to allow anyone outside the laboratory gain access to your results unless you direct us in writing to provide that information.  This includes members of your family.

We pledge to test your DNA sample only for the information you request.  To further guarantee privacy, we promise to destroy your sample within ten days after completing the test.

We pledge never to respond to requests from third parties for genetic information that might violate your privacy, unless we are compelled to do so by a court of law.

Some people worry that once they know a genetic fact about themselves, they could be forced to share that private information with an insurer or employer.  Almost all states have laws forbidding group health insurers from using private genetic information in decisions about insurability.  Some states also have similar laws limiting the use of genetic data by employers.

Results of tests conducted at our laboratory on a DNA sample provided by you will not be sent to any physician outside of the company or to any hospital unless you direct us to do so.  This private information will only be put in your general medical record if you decide that you want that to be done.
